The Dogs
Come up and meet all of our buddies;
Many of our dogs are born here and live their whole life here with their parents and littermates. In their retirement, Mushey and Krumkakke get to pick up our daughter from the schoolbus. The current workforce, Willow, Pinto, Andy, B.B., Buddy, Koko, Luther, Suki, Lightning, Boulder, Agate, Java, Starbuck, Macintosh, Cappy (Casper), Lucy, Jasper, Jade, Ruby, Lefse, T-Bone, Porterhouse, and their sister Petit Filet Mignon (Minnie), The Tea Litter--Earl Grey, Zinger, Sassafras and Ice, and the Dr. Suess litter--Green Eggs, Sam I Am, Horton and Cindy Lou Who, run all of the trips. They have as many different personalities as names and are the central focus of our trips. Small group sizes allow guests to get to know them very well and enjoy these unique athletes.

koko.jpg When the sleds come out in the morning, they howl, bark and sing in excitement. The only way to quiet them is to hook them up and say, "LET’S GO!" The leaders all have thousands of miles of experience leading the teams through all kinds of conditions, from deep snow to Lake Superior ice to steep hills and plowed roads. The dogs are all Siberian Husky middle distance racing dogs that are trained specifically for providing a safe, comfortable and exciting ride for outdoor oriented people of all ages and abilities. Our extended fall training gets the dogs in such good physical shape that they do not even get tired on a long day. Keeping them happy all the time is our goal and you can feel that happiness from the moment you arrive.

The Mushing
Why does Wolfsong have the best trips in the business? Why does over half of our business come from return guests each year? Small group sizes for the most hands-on experience, great trails, and well-trained, happy dogs. For some, helping harness the dogs and riding in the sled is enough. Others want to learn everything they can about mushing and driving their own team. Everyone has a different reason for coming, and our trips satisfy them all.

The Setting
Nestled in the hills overlooking Lake Superior in Bayfield County, Wisconsin is Wolfsong, Adventures in Mushing. "The best dogsledding trails in the Lower 48"extend right from the kennel out into the remote hilly terrain of the Bayfield Peninsula, home of the Apostle Islands Dogsled Race. With an average of 150" of snow, we have good conditions from Christmas through late March every year.

The Guides
At Wolfsong, the owners are the guides. John and Mary Thiel are seasoned outdoor adventurers who are eager to share their lifestyle and experiences. They have both mushed thousands of miles and trained hundreds of new mushers. This experience has proven that small group sizes, well trained, happy dogs and good trails are the components of a great mushing program
